la Galerie du 19M Tokyo: Looking back at a unique creative dialogue between France and Japan
From 30 September to 20 October 2025, le19M set up in Tokyo, on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower, offering the Japanese public a unique insight into the world of French and Japanese excellence. Over three weeks, around 74,800 visitors discovered la Galerie du 19M Tokyo, a space of wonder, surprise, and dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Designed as a free and inspiring journey, the event was structured around three chapters: "The Festival," "Beyond Our Horizons" and "Lesage: 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration."
In keeping with its mission of transmission, le19M placed encounters between the public and artisans at the heart of this experience. Conversations, demonstrations, and participatory workshops allowed everyone—children, amateurs, and enthusiasts alike—to learn about handicraft, the materials, and the creative process.
Cultural programme in Tokyo
Two workshops were among the highlights: "Murmuration," a participatory introductory embroidery workshop led by artisans from Maison Lesage, and a key ring creation workshop designed with the About A Worker design studio using recycled materials, which combined imagination and sustainability.
A series of talks and discussions, moderated by Géraldine Sarratia, Émilie Hammen, and Ryuko Kida, further broadened the programme. These discussions brought together key figures from le19M, members of the editorial committee, and French and Japanese artisans, designers, and artists to discuss topics such as the transmission of savoir-faire, dialogue between cultures, youth and embroidery, and the encounter between contemporary artists and artisans.
In an atmosphere that was joyful, educational, and poetic, la Galerie du 19M Tokyo embodied the spirit of le19M: celebrating the Métiers d’art, sharing savoir-faire, and fostering dialogue between cultures.
Following on from Tokyo, "Beyond Our Horizons" continues its journey: in January 2026, the public will be able to discover this encounter between French and Japanese artisans at la Galerie du 19M in Paris, through new creations and an immersive programme.
