la Galerie du 19M is celebrating the arrival of spring and the Beyond our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris season, drawing inspiration from Japanese matsuri, the traditional festivals that mark the change of seasons.

A day of celebrations will take place at la Galerie and on la Parcelle, with workshops for visitors of all ages, music, culinary discoveries, and a market with Japanese influences.

Zome tataki, plant printing with Vergers Urbains 

From 11 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
On la Parcelle 

Visitors are invited to try their hand at tataki zome, a Japanese technique that involves stamping plant pigments onto fabric using a hammer. By choosing plants and experimenting with their pigments, participants will create unique patterns while exploring the role of dye plants. 

Ages 5+ 

An adult must be present at all times during the workshop.

The Wishing Tree, embroidery on washi paper 

From 2.30 to 5.30 p.m.
At la Galerie du 19M 

la Galerie du 19M is hosting a collaborative workshop devised by Sébastien Desplat and Atelier Montex, where visitors are invited to embroider their own tanzaku—small strips of washi paper on which to write a wish.

Woodblock printing with Sébastien Desplat

Sébastien Desplat is leading an outdoor workshop on woodblock printing and printing on washi paper, alongside the collaborative Wishing Tree workshop taking place at la Galerie du 19M for the duration of the exhibition Beyond our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris

The floral workshop Atelier Ko creates arrangements inspired by Japanese aesthetics, driven by simplicity and balance. 

For this market at la Parcelle, they will be offering a selection of local seasonal flowers, alongside a few rarer varieties, as well as ceramics.

Balades Sonores

Independent record shop Balades Sonores has curated a carefully selected range of Japanese vinyl records, which will be on display throughout the exhibition Beyond our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris

These records will be on sale with exclusive discounts. 

Balades Sonores will also be presenting a musical programme throughout the day.

Kaori Endo

Kaori Endo, a nomadic Japanese chef, prepares bento boxes that are as beautiful as they are appetising, with something to suit every palate. A selection of drinks and desserts will also be available exclusively at la Parcelle’s refreshment bar !
