Until 14 December 2025, the exhibition « Trouver son monde » at la Galerie du 19M is showcasing seven works by young artists, created in collaboration with the Maisons d'art of le19M, with the aim of preserving living heritage and celebrating its transmission.

In this article, discover the collaborations between the artists Ismaël Bazri and Éléa-Jeanne Schmitter and Atelier Montex, the embroidery house resident at le19M, which are presented in the exhibition.

Ismaël Bazri x Atelier Montex

For this exhibition, artist Ismaël Bazri and Atelier Montex, a resident Maison d'art at le19M which specialises in embroidery, developed the installation Just a game.

In this installation, Bazri draws on his memories of adolescence. He combines excerpts from a 1990s video game in which players took on the role of a helicopter pilot in a war-torn country with images from television archives. The montage of fictional and real images questions the impact of video games on the treatment of current events. Echoing this, the embroidery of a landscape from the video game, created with Atelier Montex, transforms the visual codes of pixels into a unique poetic relief, composed of beads, sequins and paillettes.

Discover this work in the exhibition until 14 December!

“As Ismaël already had a cross-stitching practice, I invited him to work on his piece directly with us in the studio. This is the first time we’ve welcomed an artist in total immersion, which led to a real creative dialogue with the craftspeople.”

Éléa-Jeanne Schmitter x Atelier Montex

For this exhibition, artist Éléa-Jeanne Schmitter and the resident Maison d'art at le19M, Atelier Montex, conceived the collaborative project What Remains.

Éléa-Jeanne Schmitter drew inspiration from the Pioneer plaques, engraved messages sent into space by NASA in the early 1970s to introduce humanity to potential extraterrestrial civilisations. Going against this subjective and fixed representation, she offers a critical reinterpretation of what we choose to convey.

The installation, in the form of a collaborative workshop, presents a reinterpretation of the plaque in the form of a drawing by the artist, embroidered with Atelier Montex, as well as photographic prints and a sound piece. Based on testimonies collected from artisans at le19M, Elea-Jeanne Schmitter invites the public to complete the embroidery over the course of the exhibition.

Discover this work in the exhibition until 14 December!

“Éléa’s highly conceptual and symbolic approach guided our interpretation, while leaving us a great deal of room for creativity, both in the arrangement of materials and in the use of colour. Her idea of embroidering tubes containing messages brings a singular poetry to this collective work.”

Aska Yamashita, artistic director of Atelier Montex
