Programme of the event

Food is a lively space of cultural fusion, where techniques and flavours travel and transform. Japanese cuisine is a prime example of this: rooted in expertise and respect for the seasons and ingredients, it has continued to evolve through contact with other cultures. Passed down and reinvented through encounters, it thrives on exchange, blending traditions and new influences. Nothing stays the same: everything transforms.

The Galerie du 19M is continuing its exploration of culinary craftsmanship, teaming up with Tempura to create a live cooking show celebrating culinary fusion. Through demonstrations, discussions, and workshops, this evening event reveals Japanese cuisine in a new light, where heritage and innovation complement each other, and where precision of movement feeds on an attentive openness to others.

Through these cross-cultural exchanges, food becomes a space for shared creativity: each dish tells a story of transitions, encounters, and reinventions.

About

Magazine TEMPURA - Cover

TEMPURA Magazine

Since 2019, Tempura has explored the different facets of an ever-changing Japan: arts, society, fashion, literature, cuisine, design...

So many entry points for telling unexpected, no-holds-barred stories, which challenge preconceived ideas. Stories of women and men of all ages and backgrounds, whether they are artists or office workers. This is Tempura’s ambition: to immerse itself in a country that the world fantasises about in order to paint a sensitive, embodied portrait of it. Tempura is an independent magazine with a team based in France and Japan. Every six months, it features experts and laypeople, writers and journalists, sociologists and artists. A way of perceiving Japan through different sensibilities, covering all subjects: love, death, sex, work... Universal themes that connect us beyond prejudice.

The name Tempura was chosen to illustrate this idea of interconnection. This iconic dish of Japanese cuisine, originally from Portugal, is itself the result of exchanges between cultures that have influenced each other over time, despite geographical boundaries.
