"Lesage, 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration"

Using a selection of images from the Maison Lesage archives, magazines, and fashion shows, participants are invited to design a scrapbook, exploring the history of the famous embroidery and weaving house.

Each child will be given a notebook in which to paste sources of inspiration, write, draw, and visually shape their Lesage story. Designed as a research project made up of scraps of material, magazine images, and texts, the notebook will document the creative process, just as an art director does.

Participants will be encouraged to draw, with colouring templates (necklaces, flowers, and accessories), and will take their own personalised notebook home with them

For this workshop, participants are invited to bring an iconic book from their library to adorn it with embroidery, accompanied by textile artist Brankiça Zilović.

This workshop provides an introduction to embroidery, using an original medium—the book. Using a variety of materials such as cotton and silk threads, beads, and sequins, participants are invited to transform the book they have brought along into a truly precious object, adorned with decorative embroidery in the tradition of the prestigious Maison Lesage. The application of ornaments and threads using different embroidery stitches invites participants to explore the evocative power of the imagination and creativity inherent in literature.

Participants will take their own embroidered book home with them.

Participants will also be able to embroider an old book chosen by the artist from a selection that will be made available.

In this children’s workshop, participants will be guided by textile artist Brankiça Žilović as they create their own self-portrait using Polaroid photography and embroidery.

In this workshop, children are invited to take a snapshot of themselves and then embellish it with embroidery using threads, beads, and sequins. The spontaneity of Polaroid photography is associated with the meticulousness and precision of embroidery, from the choice of threads to the stitch-by-stitch application of embellishments.

Guided by Brankiça Žilović, they’ll discover the basics of this meticulous art form and then personalise their photograph in a fun and creative way, taking their own embroidered Polaroid home with them.

To mark the centenary of Maison Lesage, artist Diane Cescutti and Lesage’s textile design are inviting participants to imagine the future of weaving. The artist invites them to try their hand at different traditional techniques, integrating their phone charger cables to create a connected, hybrid weaving.

During this workshop, artist Diane Cescutti will offer an introduction to weaving through the discovery of ikat techniques, the Indonesian technique of knotting previously dyed threads, and passementerie, used for clothing decoration.

After choosing their threads from a special selection produced by Lesage’s textile design department, participants are invited to create a hybrid weaving on a miniature loom, incorporating their phone charger cable. The final object is a connected and hybrid weaving, a functional and personalised charger. 

Participants will take their work home with them.

In this children's workshop, Diane Cescutti guides participants through a variety of traditional weaving techniques, including ikat and passementerie. By combining ikat, the Indonesian technique of knotting previously dyed threads, and passementerie, used for clothing decoration, participants are invited to create a weaving using threads from the Maison Lesage.

For this workshop devoted to weaving, artist Diane Cescutti invites participants to make a decorative and colourful weaving by learning a number of different techniques. After choosing their threads from a selection produced by the textile department of Maison Lesage, participants can combine ikat and passementerie techniques on a miniature loom to assemble their selected threads and create a decorative weaving to hang on the object of their choice to personalise it: key ring, bag handle, bookmark, etc. Participants will take their work home with them.

For the centenary of Maison Lesage, the artist Emma Tholot invites the public to discover the tarot through embroidery, to create a textile object between accessory and talisman.

Referring to Lesage Intérieurs’ affinity for the iconography of the esoteric game of tarot, Emma Tholot invites each participant to draw a card from the famous Tarot de Marseille, whose symbols and motifs they are free to interpret. 

Inspired by the Papess, the Empress, the Force, the Moon, the Star, and the World, participants will create a design on fabric, which they will then embroider and decorate. The square of fabric will be completed with a fringed frame, becoming a talismanic object that is the fruit of their encounter with these evocative cards.

Participants can bring their embroidered fabric home with them.

To mark the centenary of Maison Lesage, artist Emma Tholot invites children to create carnival masks inspired by the esoteric and theatrical iconography of Lesage.

Following the artist’s guidance, participants will decorate felt masks with different textiles (satin, voile, cotton, taffeta, lace, etc.), ribbons, pompoms, fringes, etc. to create a festive accessory. 

Participants can take their own carnival mask home with them.

On the occasion of the exhibition "Lesage, 100 years of fashion and decoration" exhibition, la Galerie du 19M is inviting the public to a creative Sunday brunch once a month. As a tribute to the Lesage embroidery and weaving house resident at le19M, this event will focus on handicraft, with a unique programme dedicated to nail art and ornamentation that will turn le Café du 19M into a pop-up nail bar.

Three nail artists will be fitting semi-permanent or false nails. With their guidance, participants will then be invited to decorate their nails with glitter or rhinestones, using techniques and motifs from the Maison Lesage archives. Create works of art on your nails, bringing together the worlds of embroidery and contemporary nail art.

 Have your nails done while enjoying a gourmet Sunday brunch prepared by le Café du 19M. Participants will also be able to visit the "Lesage, 100 years of fashion and decoration" exhibition.

la Galerie du 19M and Profane launch the 2nd Amateur Collection Contest and Profane #19!

On Thursday 14 November, during this exceptional evening, the names of the 10 finalists in the 2nd Amateur Collection Contest, which will be launched next September, will be revealed.

 Following the success of the first contest, with entries from close to 70 candidates, la Galerie du 19M and Profane magazine are once again inviting crazy collectors, those with a passion either for small treasures or huge marvels, those obsessed with the beautiful and bizarre, and discreet or eccentric fans to apply. An impartial jury will meet for the grand prize-giving ceremony hosted by Sébastien Thème.

 The exhibition “Lesage,100 years of fashion and decoration” will be open throughout the evening and a temporary installation will showcase the unusual objects of Olivier Duizabo, the winner of the 19M prize in at the 2023 Amateur Collection Contest.

 Profane #19 will be launched on this occasion.

To round off the year, la Galerie du 19M is celebrating the winter solstice over the course of a weekend. This is a time of darkness and of nature slowly coming to rest, with a programme in tune with the gentle mood of the season.
