In a play based on interviews, the Babel theatre company visited various households across France to paint a composite portrait of fatherhood today.

Set in the familiar surroundings of an apartment—soon transformed into an investigation bureau where various documents support the narrative « PÈRES » features two men who defy expected representations of the family.

The actors take turns playing the roles of different families, recounting words they have heard or fully re-enacting certain situations. Along the way, they explore different generations and types of fathers to answer the question: What does a family look like in France today?

Gradually, new stories emerge, raising questions of gender equality and gender emancipation. This gives rise to a further question: What will the man of the future be like?

The members of the Babel theatre company have followed a tried and tested method from their previous productions, conducting interviews on the theme of family. The transition to the stage organises and shapes the words of those interviewed. The actors act as both conduits and interpreters, creating a unique poetic style from the documentary material.
