Discover and create wind chimes with Miyoko Yasumoto

For this workshop, Miyoko Yasumoto invites children to assemble and personalise their own fūrin, a small Japanese wind chime traditionally hung on the entrance of houses during the summer. Considered a talisman in some traditions, the fūrin features a small strip of paper (tanzaku) that swings in the wind and is often inscribed with a haiku, a short Japanese poem.

Children will discover different skills as they assemble their fūrin, including the technique of musubi, the traditional Japanese art of knot-tying. They will also be able to choose their braided thread and tanzaku and decorate the glass bell of their chime with acrylic markers to create beautiful colourful designs.

At the end of the workshop, each child will take their own personalised fūrin home with them.
