Creating Japanese lanterns with Mélanie Matranga

In this workshop, the public is invited to discover the centuries-old practice of Japanese lantern-making through the creative eye of artist Mélanie Matranga. Participants are invited to cut washi paper into several pieces, according to a pattern provided by the artist, in order to construct the structure of their lamp.

Each piece then becomes a space for expression: using Indian ink, participants create free or guided drawings, inspired by examples and the bestiary of insects and animals featured in the exhibition.

This creative process is complemented by collage work using washi paper shapes, allowing participants to play with overlays, transparencies, and contrasts.

Participants will take home their own personalised lanterns home.
