Episode 4 - Antoine, bootmaker and workshop manager at Massaro
In this new episode, we follow Antoine, a bootmaker and head of the bootmaking workshop since 2015 at Massaro, a resident Maison d’art at le19M. Always curious and hands-on, he began his studies with a classe préparatoire for engineering schools, before a fateful encounter with a cobbler led him to the Métiers d’art.
Today, Antoine takes us on a tour of the Massaro workshop. He tells us about the brand’s origins, introduces us to the various trades practised there, explains the key stages in the bootmaking process, and shows us the tools and techniques that define the daily routine of the artisans in this exceptional workshop.
A podcast produced for le19M by Géraldine Sarratia, directed by Guillaume Girault.
About Massaro
A regular collaborator with leading fashion houses, Maison Massaro provides footwear for their runway shows. In the bootmaker’s workshops, the artisans (block makers, cutters, stitchers, and bottom makers) now divide their time between couture creations for major fashion houses and designers from around the world, and bespoke work for a select clientele—both women and men—always exploring new techniques to push the boundaries of their art.
“Perhaps that is what sets Massaro apart: the fact that it has always managed to come out on top, even when things got tougher, going on to create styles such as the sling-back and others.”
