"A Sense of Touch"

Presented by la Galerie du 19M in Shanghai, A Sense of Touch brings together the Maisons d’art of le19M alongside Chinese and French creatives, artisans, and designers to explore the relationship between gesture, material, and transmission.​

Through textiles, embroidery, ceramics, woodcarving, lacquer, bamboo weaving and installations, the exhibition considers touch as a way of knowing, creating, and connecting. Moving between personal memory, cultural exchange, and dialogue with the living world, it reveals how craft practices continue to evolve and generate meaning today.

More than a celebration of heritage, A Sense of Touch presents craft as a living practice, where the encounter between hand and matter opens new possibilities for creation.

"Lesage. 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration"

The exhibition Lesage: 100 years of fashion and decoration is an invitation to dive into the excellence and innovation in embroidery and weaving of Lesage. A close partner of CHANEL, Lesage was established in 1924 and is today a resident Maison d'art of le19M. It has, over one century, contributed to shaping contemporary design, leading to remarkable creative collaborations with some of the greatest names in fashion and decoration. Forged through three generations of master artisans and thanks to their unique ability to reinvent their trade, this legacy combines artistry with experimentation and tradition, with a bold and adventurous spirit.

At the heart of la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI, a group exhibition entitled A Sense of Touch, curated by an Editorial Committee comprising GONG Yan, LIN Tianmiao, ZHANG Lei and Christelle KOCHER, brings together the Maisons d'art of le19M alongside Chinese and French artists, artisans and designers.

le19M is a place of heritage and creation, dedicated to passing on the Métiers d’art of fashion and decoration. It is the culmination of a process that CHANEL began in the 1980s to preserve savoir-faire.

Since 2021, le19M has brought together 11 Maisons d'art. They form a one-of-a-kind community of 700 artisans and experts. Their excellence serves the design studios of the most prestigious fashion houses and interior design agencies, as well as young talent.

la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI is the third international chapter of this traveling cultural program, marking a new milestone in its development. Spanning the entire third floor of the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP), the project unfolds as a playful, inspiring and exploratory journey — a space for experimentation, practice and reflection — encouraging encounters between the Métiers d’art and the vibrancy of China’s contemporary cultural landscape.
