Visitors to la Galerie du 19M are invited to discover the techniques of painting and gluing stones and rhinestones onto milagritos designed by Goossens in the shape of a hand, an eye, or a heart. Each milagrito is then hung on the shared installation, creating a collective work of art that embodies a dialogue between different cultures and practices.

Milagritos is a monumental work conceived by Carla Fernández with Maison Goossens for la Galerie du 19M and created by visitors throughout the exhibition.

Characteristic of Mexican religious art, these ex-votos (also known as milagros, which means “miracles” in Mexico) are used either on their own or to decorate more elaborate pieces. These ex-votos are used to make a wish or give thanks for a wish that has been fulfilled. Incantatory and colourful offerings in the shape of a heart, a hand, skeletons, guitars, eyes, and crosses, they take up motifs drawn from popular iconography and materialise the wishes of the faithful.
