To coincide with the exhibition “Carla Fernández. The Future is Handmade”, la Galerie du 19M is delighted to present the workshops of Sybille Berger, a textile and product designer based in Marseille. Her project involves reusing fabric swatch displays to create unique pieces.

After choosing the different colour samples and thinking about a geometric composition, participants will be able to attach them using adhesive strips of fabric and then affix messages to them in the manner of the political messages of the designer Carla Fernández.

Participants will be able to take their work home with them.

Sybille Berger

The textile and product designer Sybille Berger is launching her first collection after seven years as a designer at the Bouroullec studio. Her project is based on the re-use of fabric swatch displays from the upholstery company Kvadrat. She uses these samples to make unique ready-to-wear pieces and bespoke textile objects.

Given that reuse is a necessity in the face of over-consumption and the current environmental crisis, Sybille Berger’s project proposes an economical use of materials that have already been transformed and used. Instead of future manufactured waste, bearing the traces of their energy use, these fabric swatches become a new resource and in so doing transmit a trace of culture.

A way of continuing to create, recognising the need to transform the world around us, thanks to handiwork through fashion design without waste or environmental destruction.
