To round off the year, la Galerie du 19M is celebrating the winter solstice over the course of a weekend. This is a time of darkness and of nature slowly coming to rest, with a programme in tune with the gentle mood of the season.

Creative workshops inspired by the Tarot de Marseille, weaving, floral art, and the culinary arts to make your own last-minute gifts. 

 

A beauty salon in collaboration with Southway Studio, including: a performance by Glow the Gom, a nail artist from Marseille; an art installation by the duo Bella Hunt & DDC; and manicures or press-ons by Fauxonglesvraiesgriffes, Claws On Earth, and Leszongl2Claire.

The Beauty Pavilion by Southway Studio

Southway Studio is organizing a performance in which the nail artist Glow the Gom becomes a mechanic and tunes nails like a bodywork technician, in keeping with the studio’s style and its research into cars and pop culture, within the scenography and works by Bella Hunt & Dante Di Calce.

Contemporary harp concert by Ange Halliwell
Saturday from 6 to 6.45pm

 

Ange Halliwell started playing the harp at the age of 12. Bsed in the lush countryside of south-west France, he composes music that combines hypnotic arpeggios, layers of sound, and voices that are sometimes sung, spoken, or shouted. Ange Halliwell’s creations are deeply connected to nature and draw on a wide range of influences including traditional music, lyricism, and contemporary hyper-pop. Ange Halliwell creates a musical and visual universe that is both luminous and tinged with melancholy.

Introduction to Ikebana workshop by THYRSE
Saturday from 2.30 to 5.30pm

 

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Participants are invited to observe plants to create harmonious floral and plant arrangements. Produced locally on la Parcelle, the arrangements are made in pots, using a grid in which to plant the stems. 

Participants will be able to take their arrangements home.

Creating woven pictures with Wendy Owusu
Saturday and Sunday, 2.30 to 5.30pm 

In this workshop, Wendy Owusu invites participants to create a woven painting. Try your hand at weaving techniques, using offcuts and scraps from the Maisons d’art at le19M. Participants will be given a unique pattern to weave, inspired by the flowers of la Parcelle and the work of the artist From Abena To Gloria: Kumasi Season

At the end of the workshop, participants will frame their weaving.

Culinary workshop on the art of tsutsumi by Juliette Leclercq 
Sunday from 2.30 to 5.30pm 

 

In this workshop, participants are invited to discover the Japanese art of wrapping, which gives as much importance to the container as to the content. Participants will be invited to make precious packages using pearls, beautiful paper, and embroidery. 

The artist will prepare different flavours of truffles for the wrapping.

Plant composition workshop by THYRSE

Inspired by the work of Annie Albers, this workshop invites participants to explore plants by creating a composition on coloured paper. Accompanied by floral designer THYRSE, children are invited to observe the embroidery motifs of the Maison Lesage and create a picture using dried plants recovered from la Parcelle and ribbons or other textiles from le19M’s scrap materials.

To celebrate the centenary of the Maison Lesage, artist Emma Tholot invites participants to create carnival masks inspired by the esoteric and theatrical iconography of the Maison Lesage.

Shortbread biscuit decoration workshop by Juliette Leclercq

In this workshop, participants are invited to discover the art of culinary design with Juliette Leclercq, resident at the Bureau du Design, de la Mode et des Métiers d’Art. Children will be able to customise coricheddos, Italian shortbread biscuits, using pearls or royal icing for colour. A unique opportunity to create edible artworks inspired by embroidery and lace motifs.
