la Galerie du 19M Dakar is moving to Paris
from May 17th to July 30th
The exhibition Sur le fil : broderie et tissage presented at IFAN/Musée Théodore-Monod de Dakar travels to la Galerie du 19M Paris/Aubervilliers from Wednesday 17 May to Sunday 30 July.
The group exhibition presented in Dakar is now being shown at la Galerie du 19M in Paris/Aubervilliers from 17 May to 30 July: some forty works and installations across all media, created by some thirty artists, craftsmen, manufactures, and collectives working with textiles, some in collaboration with the le19M’s resident Maisons d’art. This touring exhibition will introduce visitors to the Greater Paris area to Senegal’s priceless craft savoir-faire. The exhibition is accompanied by a multi-faceted cultural programme of workshops through which to discover the artistic crafts, talks, and performances. Bringing together artists, artisans, and performers whose work resonates with the vibrancy of the Dakar art scene, it honours the geography of Dakar and Senegal’s savoir-faire, explores its civility and artistic effervescence, and examines its perception by the Afropean diasporas.
the Residents
le19M was designed to bring together 11 Maisons d'art, the Maison ERES, and a multidisciplinary gallery, la Galerie du 19M, under one roof. Together, they bring together 600 artisans and experts in a site that provides the optimal working environment for development: both personal development and the developement of new perspectives in service of the biggest names in Fashion and Luxury.
the Building
The design of the building was entrusted to renowned architect Rudy Ricciotti. For le19M, he imagined a complex wrapped in woven concrete threads inspired by a vertical textile weft.
